Iguazu Falls is at the border of Brazil and Argentina. A lot like Niagara Falls, it has two viewpoints Canada and USA. Niagara is impressive in terms of size, but a bit boring to experience since there is not much much to see. Iguazu teaches you that there are many sides or perspectives to a waterfall.
The Argentinian side is more natural and wilder but a lot of walking is necessary to see the three different kind of waterfalls. You get to see the waterfalls up close. The Brazilian side is a bird's eye view for the most part except ,where it ends, you can be 1 cm away from the fall.
The very reason I 'm launching this writeup is because this exact same day 2 years ago in 2019, I was at the Argentinian side of the Iguazu Falls. The universe gave me a chance to overwrite an unpleasant memory and another chance this year to present it. Pictures are worth more in this piece.
Day 9:Argentinian side of Iguazu - Parque Nacional Iguazu
I stay at the Bella Italia, a decent and clean hotel. Once I get hold of an English speaking guide from a tourism company, we have to go to the border and I need Pesos in Argentina in addition to Reals for Brazil. I had a good guide who offered to take pictures. The selling points are the natural beauty and the proximity to the waterfall. Only thing is everything happens fast. I would take the sights in more slightly more slowly.
Since I spend a lot on food in Rio & Sao Paulo , I balanced it by eating raisin bread to fuel up.
Day 10: Brazil side of Iguazu Falls
The waterfall the and surrounding area seems more commercial just like Niagara. It has got its own charm. Both sides offer boat rides like the "Maid of the Mist" in Niagara. The Argentinian side looked more hardcore so I went with the Brazil side boat ride wherein you get drenched by the waterfall up close. The feeling is like a speedboat chase building up suspense and pure exhilaration. One yells just like going downhill in a roller coaster when the cold water drenches and soaks you to the skin.
I almost had a close shave to this turning into a country since my phone slipped out of my pocket en route. I wanted to take the picture of the waterfall up close. I had a choice whether to enjoy that moment or let the feeling of doom engulf me.
I managed to retrace my steps and ask around in sign language. Thankfully they understood what I was asking. I was alone in a country in a wilderness setting and I relied on the phone for Uber . This was the fist time I was doing everything myself. I did choose roaming, but something happened when I crossed the border and I could use only Wi-Fi for the next 3 days.
The amount of walking exhausted me out so I slept right through the evening into the night.
Parque De Aves is exceptional for its Macaws. There is an enclosure where they fly freely. There is a photo booth where you can take a selfie picture with them behind you sitting on a horizontal log. The latter I discovered too late and it seemed too contrived. I spent 30 minutes or more in the enclosure attempting to take a picture of the macaws in flight. I relied on a phone camera. Technically it is not perfect, but you will see things in its natural setting.
I retuned back to the base, I rejuvenated and checked out the immediate neighborhood but did not find anything of interest except for a eating venue. I took care to eat good quality food to ensure I would not risk getting sick during the travel .I ended the eventful day at the Hotel Bella Italia with Spaghetti Carbonara and Cachaca ( a spirit made from fermented sugarcane).
